Check Your Exhaust With Peacock Motor Engineers

Your car’s exhaust serves many essential purposes and so should never be neglected.

The exhaust must be kept in good working order, as it helps to:

  • Maintain the best fuel economy
  • Reduce your vehicle’s CO2 emissions

Like other parts of your car, however, your exhaust doesn’t last forever, it occasionally will require some attention or need replacing. Salt and small rocks on the road, harsh weather and excessive uneven driving can speed up the deterioration of the exhaust and can even lead to it splitting.

Depending on what problems you have with your exhaust, driving can become dangerous. So, we recommend that you bring your car in as soon as you notice anything you think points towards a damaged system.

DOES MY EXHAUST NEED REPLACING?

Damage to a car’s exhaust will happen, it’s unavoidable. Deterioration can be caused by a range of sources including bumps, excessive use and ageing car parts. The recommended distance you should travel between checks to your exhausts is 10,000 miles.

However, we suggest a yearly health check for your vehicle to make sure your exhaust, and the rest of your car, is still running smoothly and to allow us to spot any issues before they have the chance to develop into something more serious.

In between checks, if you notice any of the following we recommend you bring in your car as soon as you can, as they all signal towards problems with your exhaust:

  • Large amounts of smoke from the exhaust
  • Visible damage to the exhaust such as splits and holes
  • Your exhaust pipe is low-hanging or drags behind the vehicle
  • A noticeably louder noise from your engine when you drive
  • If noises such as knocking, rattling or clicking continue to come from your exhaust
